Sacrificial Anode System Care
One yearly task during the visit you already schedule: swap the consumed magnesium anode. No calibration, no power draw, no mid-season visits under normal use.
Jump to sacrificial system care
Annual Anode Replacement
Inspect contact, log batch and date, photo or keep worn anodes when exposure is odd; uneven wear flags environment or clamp torque issues.
Jump to anode replacement
ICCP System Maintenance
Confirm the controller shows in-range protection on your facility schedule; reference leads stay clean, strain-relieved, and damage-free.
Jump to ICCP maintenance
What Does Not Require Maintenance
No refrigerant work, coil teardown, chemical flushes, or planned cooling outages—about $50/year anodes versus ICCP checks plus a ~10-year controller cycle.

Long-Term Support
When site conditions or equipment change, confirm sizing still fits. BAS-backed ICCP logs support audits; email support@coil-shield.com for runbooks, warranty questions, or technical reviews.

Sacrificial Anode System Care
For the sacrificial anode system, one task, once a year, during the HVAC service visit you would already be scheduling: the technician unclamps the spent anode and clamps a new one. That is the complete annual maintenance requirement. Install it once. Over the course of a year, the magnesium anode is gradually consumed as it protects the coil. By the time of the next service visit, it has done its job and is ready to be swapped out. The replacement itself takes a few minutes.
No ongoing calibration. No power consumption. No mid-season service visits under normal conditions.
Annual Anode Replacement
The technician removes the clamp from the consumed anode, inspects the suction line contact area for any surface changes, installs the new anode with firm metal-to-metal contact, and logs the replacement date and anode batch in the service record. The worn anode is kept or photographed if the site shows unusual exposure. Wear patterns tell you something: even consumption over the year is normal. Rapid or asymmetric exhaustion suggests either an unusually aggressive environment or a clamp that lost firm contact mid-year. Note it and re-check torque at the following visit.
ICCP System Maintenance
ICCP systems include a controller with a display showing current protection status. At each scheduled maintenance interval, typically aligned with your existing facility service schedule, check that the controller shows active protection within the specified current range. Most ICCP installations require no current adjustment between service visits. The controller manages protection levels automatically as environmental conditions change.
Keep the reference electrode lead and its connections clean and physically protected from strain or vibration damage. A loose or damaged sensor connection is the most common reason a site would need an unscheduled service visit. Inspect and resecure leads at each maintenance interval.
What Does Not Require Maintenance
Neither system requires refrigerant handling or refrigerant recharge, disassembly of the air handler or coil access, special chemical treatments or flush cycles, or cooling downtime or service interruptions during normal maintenance. CoilShield is designed for minimum total cost of ownership over the life of the equipment. For the sacrificial anode system, that means one anode per year at $50. For ICCP, it means a controller check at existing maintenance intervals and a controller replacement at approximately the 10-year mark.
Long-Term Support
If your site conditions change significantly (new construction nearby, change in facility operations, major equipment replacement), it is worth a brief review to confirm the existing protection sizing is still appropriate. Send us the updated tonnage, coil type, and any change in environment and we can confirm. For facilities with BAS integration, ICCP logging data can be reviewed against protection thresholds at any routine audit.
