Maintenance & Care
One of the key advantages of CoilShield protection systems is their minimal maintenance requirements. Unlike many HVAC components that require regular service, CoilShield systems are designed for long-term, trouble-free operation.
Sacrificial Anode System Maintenance
Maintenance Required: Minimal to None
Sacrificial anode systems operate passively and require virtually no maintenance:
- Visual inspection: During routine annual HVAC service, your technician can check that the anode clamp is secure and the anode is still in place
- Anode replacement: Typically needed after 10+ years of service, depending on operating conditions
- No adjustments: No settings to check, no levels to monitor
- No cleaning: The anode doesn't require cleaning or special care
When to Replace the Anode
Anode replacement is needed when:
- Visual inspection shows significant material loss (typically after 10+ years)
- The anode has corroded substantially but not completely
- You're experiencing system issues (rare—anodes typically fail safe)
Replacement is straightforward: Simply unclamp the old anode and clamp the new one in place. No system modifications required. Installation takes 10-15 minutes.
ICCP System Maintenance
Maintenance Required: Periodic Monitoring
ICCP systems include monitoring capabilities:
- Controller display: Check protection levels via the controller's display panel
- Remote monitoring: Many systems include remote monitoring capabilities for critical facilities
- Annual inspection: Professional inspection recommended annually to verify optimal operation
- Rare adjustments: Most systems maintain optimal protection automatically
What Doesn't Need Maintenance
CoilShield systems do NOT require:
- Regular cleaning
- Lubrication
- Refrigerant system access
- Electrical adjustments (except ICCP initial setup)
- Seasonal adjustments
- Chemical treatments
Troubleshooting
If protection seems ineffective:
- Verify anode is securely clamped to suction line
- Check for good electrical contact between anode and line
- Ensure anode is positioned to be covered by condensate during operation
- For ICCP systems, verify power supply is operating and current output is in normal range
If you have concerns: Contact CoilShield support or your installing contractor. Most issues are resolved through simple visual inspection and verification of installation.
Long-Term Care
CoilShield systems are designed for long-term operation. With proper installation and minimal maintenance, you can expect:
- 10+ years of protection from sacrificial anode systems
- 20+ years of protection from ICCP systems
- Continuous protection throughout the system lifespan
- Peace of mind knowing your coils are protected
The same technology that's protected infrastructure for 200 years is now protecting your HVAC system—with the same reliability and minimal maintenance.
